interiors & styling: Inspiring Tabletops for Thanksgiving

How is Thanksgiving tomorrow?! How is it already the holiday season? This year has sped right by and here I am, at the end of November reflecting on it all. Tomorrow I’m excited to take a much-needed break from work, remember the things I’m most thankful for, count my blessings, make memories with friends, continue fun Thanksgiving traditions, and of course- eat ALL the delicious food. I figured in the spirit of Thanksgiving (and design), it might be fun to look at some beautiful and aspirational tablescapes fit for any Thanksgiving gathering.

I’m not quite sure what’s in the water in the PNW, but my friends Joanna and Cassandra (both located in Seattle) are the BEST of the best at styling tabletops. Most of the images throughout this post belong to them, photographed by the talented Meghan Klein. I need them to give me a serious lesson on layering the perfect table.

We’re not hosting this year, but if we were- I’d want a casual table with plenty of fall florals, textured linens, and friends gathered ’round.

Ironically, the name tag above reads “Sarah”, but sadly- I didn’t attend Joanna’s pretty dinner party. Ha! I’m a sucker for vintage glassware though, and those coupes are calling to me. It’s the perfect contrast of relaxed style meets sophistication.

I’m also convinced I need to expand my dinnerware collection and branch out from using my plain, white dishes. Remember this post? I shared every single dish I own (with source links, of course)! While I gravitate toward the classics, I think having some fun, patterned, or colorful options would be a nice change of pace.

This time of year, I’m always attracted to cognac and autumnal colors… brown, burnt sienna, burgundy, marigold, and creamy neutrals. That palette feels so cozy and welcoming to me!

Do you have any favorite dishes or traditions when it comes to setting the Thanksgiving table? I’d love to hear about them! Once we finally finish our dining table (hopefully in the coming year), I’d love to start some of our own traditions.

I also like the idea of styling a “food table” for a buffet type of dinner party or Thanksgiving gathering. I think guests prefer to self serve when it comes to Thanksgiving. Do you find that to be the case? I also like to pile the food on my own plate and “family style” feels best when it comes to sharing a Thanksgiving meal.

Whatever you’re doing or however you’re celebrating tomorrow, I hope you have the happiest Thanksgiving with those you love! We’ll be eating our deep fried turkey, playing games, and sharing laughs. Enjoy!!
