I have to admit that I was always a bit wary of trying a sugar scrub for some reason. I think I just didn’t quite get what the big deal was until I tried one for the first time, and I was like, “Whoa Mama!! This is great!” The grains of the sugar exfoliate as you scrub it into your skin (hence the name) and that combined with the oil in the scrub will leave your skin feeling extra soft and smooth when you towel off. Not only that, but sugar, while not great for your insides, can actually be great for your skin and choosing a delicious scent for your scrub is just plain good for your soul. Since we are deep into pumpkin spice territory at this time of the year, I thought it would be the perfect “flavor” for a sugar scrub, and making a big batch means you’ve got an easy DIY gift idea for the holidays as well!
Pumpkin Spice Sugar Scrub, makes one cup
3/4 cup white sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice (you can make your own if you can’t find it blended already)
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 cup coconut oil
small decorative jars for gift giving
*When using food items for beauty products, I like to get all organic ingredients if I can find them…
Mix your white and brown sugar in a bowl with your pumpkin pie spice and cinnamon until blended.
Warm your coconut oil in a small saucepan until just melted and stir in your vanilla extract. Pour your liquid in with your sugar mixture and mix until well blended. It will smell SO GOOD!!
Spoon your scrub into jars and add ribbons and labels if you are giving the scrub out as gifts.
The amazing smell that comes out of the bowl as you mix it all together is to die for—delicious!! Since it’s all edible, I won’t tell if you even sneak a taste of the scrub as you jar it (I totally did!). I keep dreaming about how good it would taste sprinkled on buttered toast… Anyway, this scrub will definitely be a highlight of your day when you use it in the shower, and I think you’ll see some very happy faces if you give these out as gifts this holiday season (and you’ll love how easy it was to make!). xo.
